Button hold status

Press and hold a button on the diagram to see Pressed, live hold duration, then Released when you let go. This checks that press and release both reach the browser.

No button held Hold any button to measure duration.

Repeated clicks

This check flags closely spaced clicks on the same button. They may be intentional double-clicks or unwanted extra clicks. Timing alone can't tell whether the button is faulty.

Not tested No button presses in this session yet.

Detected means your browser received the input. It doesn't guarantee that your mouse is fault-free. Use the dedicated tests above to check scroll speed, polling rate, or accidental double-clicking.

Quick start

How to Test Your Mouse Online

Use this free mouse test online to check whether each button and the scroll wheel register in your browser. It is a mouse checker for basic hardware input, not a speed contest.

1

Move over the test area

Move the pointer onto the mouse diagram. Right-click menu is disabled there so you can test the right button.

2

Press each button once

Use this mouse button test to check left, right, middle, and side buttons. Each detected input updates its own counter and shows ✓ Detected, so you can see which buttons respond. Side buttons are optional.

3

Scroll, move, and hold

Roll the wheel up and down, move the pointer across the pad, and hold a button to see press, release, and hold duration.

Buttons

Mouse Button Test

Use this mouse button test to check each button one at a time and see whether your browser detects the press.

Left and right

Left is the primary click. Right is context-menu click; this page blocks the menu inside the tool so you can still run a mouse click test on the right button. Hold either button to confirm press and release both register.

Middle button

Middle is usually the wheel click. Some browsers also use it for auto-scroll or open-in-new-tab; the test area blocks those actions while you check the button. A long hold should stay on Pressed until you release.

Side buttons

Button 4 / Back and Button 5 / Forward are optional. Not every mouse has them, so they don't count toward the five basic checks. Browser and OS support can vary; if a side button never lights up, try another browser or computer before assuming a hardware fault.

What this mouse click tester does not do

It does not measure CPS, polling rate, or click latency. For report rate (Hz), use themouse polling rate test. For speed, use theclick speed test. For accidental double-clicking, use the fullDouble Click Test.

Scroll

Test Your Mouse Scroll Wheel

This page only checks whether Scroll Up and Scroll Down are detected. That is enough for a basic mouse check when the wheel feels dead or unresponsive.

What is covered

Direction detection for vertical scroll. Each direction is tracked separately so one-way failures are visible.

What is not covered

Scroll speed, skip detection, ghost or reverse scrolling, and horizontal scroll analysis are not part of this basic check. To check these, use the scroll speed test.

Need deeper scroll diagnosis?

Open the scroll speed test → for direction counts, timed scroll pace, skipped scrolling, unexpected scrolling in the opposite direction, and horizontal scrolling.

If one direction never responds, clean the wheel and the sensor slot, replug the cable or receiver, and retest on another computer. A direction that lights up here but misbehaves in apps usually points to drivers or app settings rather than a dead wheel.

Repeated clicks

Check for Double Clicks

Some mice register two clicks from one physical press. This tool only flags a possible fast repeatwhen the same button registers another press unusually quickly — timing alone does not prove a fault.

How to read it

This test flags presses of the same button that occur 100 ms or less apart. It shows the time between presses, such as 42 ms. Longer gaps are not flagged here.

This quick check can't tell whether closely spaced clicks were intentional. For a more thorough check, use the Double Click Test to collect a larger sample of presses.

Troubleshooting

Common Mouse Problems

Use this mouse check first, then narrow the issue. Many problems look like hardware wear but come from software, power, or the specific app.

SymptomWhat to try
Button not workingRetest in this tool, try another browser or PC, check mouse software mappings and battery.
Right click not workingConfirm Right Button lights up here. If it does, the issue may be the app or OS context-menu settings.
Middle mouse button not workingPress the wheel firmly once in the test area. Some thin mice need a firmer press; also check browser tab-open shortcuts.
Mouse double clickingIf this page flags fast repeats, run the Double Click Test and thetroubleshooting guide.
Scroll wheel not workingCheck Scroll Up and Scroll Down separately. Clean the wheel path, retest wired vs wireless, try another app.
Side mouse buttons not workingMap them in mouse software if needed, then retest. Browser support for Back/Forward buttons can differ.

Mouse test FAQ

How do I test my mouse?

Open this mouse test, move the pointer onto the diagram, then press each button, hold briefly, scroll the wheel, and move the mouse. Each button or scroll direction lights up and shows ✓ Detected when it responds. Side buttons are optional.

How do I test mouse buttons online?

Use the mouse button tester above: left, right, middle, and optional Back / Forward. The test area blocks the right-click menu so the right button is easy to check. Hold a button to confirm press and release both register.

How do I know if my mouse button is working?

If the matching button lights up and shows ✓ Detected after a press, your browser received the input. This does not guarantee that the button is fault-free. If it never responds, retest in another browser or on another computer.

How can I test my right mouse button?

Right-click inside the mouse diagram. Context menu is disabled there on purpose so the right button can be tested like any other button.

How do I test my mouse scroll wheel?

Scroll up and down over the test area. Scroll Up and Scroll Down are tracked separately. This page does not measure scroll speed or skipping — use the scroll speed test for that.

Why is my mouse double clicking?

A worn switch, low battery, loose connection, or software mapping can cause one press to register twice. This page may flag closely spaced clicks and show the time between them in milliseconds, but it cannot tell whether those clicks were intentional. Run the full Double Click Test and the troubleshooting guide for a fuller check.
